An Opp resident took “being neighborly” to an extreme Monday when he single-handedly doused a fire at his neighbor’s house.
Opp Fire Department dispatched one fire truck to a home on Charlois Road at 8:25 a.m. The fire started outside of the home.
“A heat lamp inside of a dog house outside of the residence caught on fire. A neighbor saw the fire and extinguished himself with a water hose,” Opp Fire Chief Cory Spurlin said.
“He had everything under control by the time we arrived.”
The Opp Fire Department assisted in salvaging and overhaul, Spurlin said.
As for damage, the fire was contained the exterior of the house.
The owners were not home at the time of the fire.
On Sunday, firefighters spent an hour fighing a fire inside of a storage building at 603 East Hart Ave. The OFD responded at 4:23 p.m. and fought the fire until 5:13 p.m.
The fire was contained inside of the building, Fire Chief Cory Spurlin said.
“The fire started in what would be the ‘A-B’ side of the building. That’s the front east side portion of the structure,” he said.
There were no occupants inside the structure.
The cause of fire is under investigation.
