The Red Level Tigers’ baseball team is eager to get the season started and looked to be improved coming into the 2018 season.
“There guys are so excited to get the year started,” Red Level head coach Todd Smith said. “Each day at practice they are counting down the number of days left before the season starts. As a coach, it’s a good feeling to have your players this excited this early in the year.”
Smith said that he has been pleased with what he has seen at practice.
“We have had some good weeks of practice,” Smith said. “During our throwing period, I really think our arms got stronger with our long-toss program. Last week, was our first week on the field and I really felt we progressed from Monday to Friday. We are still a work in progress, but we are further along then where we were at this point last year.”
This year, Smith said he is enjoying the way the team is playing together.
“We have a lot of team chemistry this year,” Smith said. “Coach (Kenny) Skipper let us work out with the football team over the summer so these kids have been together for about seven months. These guys have such great chemistry and morale. As a coach, it’s great to see that this early in the year.”
Red Level will get the season started at home on Tues., Feb. 20, at 4 p.m., against Georgiana.
“We want to invite the community out to come and watch the first game,” Smith said. “It should be a great game and we are excited to get started.”
