EAGLES FLY PAST FLORALA: Pleasant Home 1 win away from area title

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles are one win away from a Class 1A, Area 2 championship after knocking off the Florala Lady Wildcats 52-15 on Monday night in Pleasant Home.
Pleasant Home got the scoring started when Allie Garner dropped in a bucket off of an assist from River Baldwin.
Baldwin then knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Lady Eagles a 4-0 lead.
With 2:15 left in the first period, Morgan Jackson secured an offensive rebound and put it back up for two points.
Baldwin got back-to-back layups to close out the first period with the Lady Eagles on top 9-2.
Starting the second period, Baldwin got a quick bucket after pulling down an offensive rebound.
Baldwin then got a steal and took it down the floor for a layup to put the Lady Eagles up 13-2.
Baldwin continued the strong start to the second period with another layup to give Pleasant Home a 15-2 lead.
The Lady Eagles then stretched the up a little more with a big steal and score from Rae Rae Coleman.
After a free throw from Coleman, Baldwin connected twice from the charity stripe to put Pleasant Home up 20-2 with 2:34 left before halftime.
Hope Gunter then buried a 3-pointer to extend the Pleasant Home lead to 23-2.
On the other end of the court, Florala got a bucket from Jessica Goolsby to cut into the Lady Eagle lead.
Jackson closed out the scoring with a pair of free throws, but Pleasant Home was up 27-6 going into halftime.
Pleasant Home opened up the third period with baskets from Bella Worley and Baldwin.
Jackson then got a free throw, but the Lady Eagles were on top 31-7.
A few minutes later, Makayla Parker went 2-for-2 from the free throw line to cut the Pleasant Home lead down to 42-11.
Gunter closed out the scoring in the third period as the Lady Eagles carried a 43-12 lead into the final period.
Both teams continued to play hard in the final frame, and the Lady Eagles earned a spot in the area championship game with a 52-15 win.
Baldwin led the Lady Eagles with 27 points.
Jackson led the Lady Wildcats with seven points.
The Lady Eagles will take on Kinston for the area championship on Thurs., Feb. 8 at 6 p.m., in Pleasant Home.
