BULLDOGS SWEEP BOBCATS: Andy caps regular season with rivalry victories

The Andalusia Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season with a pair of big wins over the Opp Bobcats on Friday night in Andalusia.
GIRLS
ANDALUSIA 58,
OPP 32
In opening varsity game of the evening, the Lady Bulldogs used a big second half to knock off the Lady Bobcats 58-32.
Grace Wilcox put the Lady Bulldogs up 1-0 with a free throw early in the opening period.
The Lady Bobcats responded with a pair of free throws from Taniyah Thompson to put Opp up 2-1.
Opp the stretched its lead up to 5-1 with a clutch 3-pointer from Diamond Hill.
Shalisa Thomas inched the Lady Bulldogs closer when she knocked down a 3-pointer moments later.
Another bucket from Thomas and a jumper from Samone Reed, put the Lady Bulldogs up 8-7 with 3:55 left in the opening period.
Thomas then buried a long 2-pointer to put Andalusia up 10-7.
Opp’s Sydney Reisnour answered with a 3-pointer to knot the game 10-10.
Both teams picked up one more basket in the period as the score was tied 12-12 heading into the second period.
Thomas opened up the second period with a quick layup for the Lady Bulldogs.
Opp’s Chloe Copeland answered with a bucket of her own to tie the game.
Reed put the Lady Bulldogs back on top after hitting a jumper, but the Lady Bobcats got a 3-pointer from Natavia Ball to put the on top 17-16.
Another bucket from Thomas and then a free throw, gave Andalusia a 19-17 lead with 4:01 left before halftime.
Both teams continued to battle it out in the second period, but the Lady Bulldogs were on top 23-20 at halftime.
In the third period, Reed started strong and quickly helped the Lady Bulldogs build a 35-20 lead.
The Lady Bobcats managed just two 3-pointers in the third period as the Lady Bulldogs were up 41-26 heading into the final period.
In the fourth period, Katie Black picked up seven points.
Daniah Lawson tacked on a pair of 3-pointers to help lift the Lady Bulldogs to a 58-32 victory.
Opp’s 32 points is the season-high for the Lady Bobcats.
Reed led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points and Thomas added 16 points.
Copeland led the Lady Bobcats with seven points.
BOYS
ANDALUSIA 77,
OPP 44
In the final game of the evening, the Bulldogs poured it on in the second half to down the Bobcats 77-44.
B.J. Anderson put the Bulldogs up early when he played string music from downtown for a 3-0 Andalusia lead.
Anderson then dropped in a layup to put the Bulldogs up 5-0.
The Bulldogs went up 8-0 when Trey Wilkerson buried a 3-pointer.
Opp broke onto the scoreboard with a jumper from Shawn Tillis.
Andalusia got a block on the other end of the floor from Wilkerson and then a reverse layup by Anderson had the Bulldogs out front 10-2.
A few minutes later, Tillis knocked down a 3-pointer for the Bobcats and cut the score to 14-5.
Andalusia’s R.J. Drish followed with a 3-pointer of his own to help put the Bulldogs up 17-7 at the end of the first period.
Bryan Matthews opened up the second period with a big 3-pointer for the Bobcats to trim the Andalusia lead down to 17-10.
Andalusia answered right back with a pair of free throws and a layup from R.J. Drish to put the Bulldogs on top 21-10.
Erik Matthews then got back-to-back buckets for the Bobcats to trim the Andalusia lead down to 21-14.
B. Matthews got a bucket a few moments later for Opp, but Anderson responded with a 3-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 27-16 lead.
Anderson then followed that up with a layup to increase the Andalusia lead to 29-16.
B. Matthews continued to heat up for the Bobcats as he knocked down a 3-pointer to cut in to the Andalusia advantage.
The Bulldogs closed out the period strong with baskets from Drish and Samuel that had Andalusia up 35-19 at halftime.
Andalusia opened up the third period with Anderson tossing an alley-oop to Wilkerson who brought it down with authority.
A few minutes later, Wilkerson got the ball under the basket and went up for another monster jam.
Andalusia continued to stretch the lead up as a layup from Ethan Wilson put the Bulldogs on top 46-31.
Heading into the final period, Andalusia was on top 51-34.
Wilson opened up the fourth period with seven-straight points and then a 3-pointer from Anderson gave Andalusia a 63-37 lead.
A 3-pointer from Kendrick English then had the Bulldogs out front 66-37.
Anderson led the Bulldogs with 25 points, Drish added 19 points, Wilkerson finished with 11 points and Wilson tacked on 10 points.
E. Matthews led the Bobcats with 15 points and B. Matthews finished with 11 points.
