The Opp Housing Authority’s Cheer Team traveled to LaGrange, Ga., for the South Eastern Regional Conference Martin Luther King Challenge on Jan. 12-14, 2018.

The cheer team competed against other housing authorities that make up the entire South Eastern Region, which includes authorities from 10 states.

The cheer teeam competed in the 12 and under age bracket.

The girls competed on Saturday and were awarded with second place at the SERC MLK Banquet Awards that was held in the Calloway Conference Center.

“I thank the girls’ parents for allowing them to participate, and I also thank Nakeia Adair for coaching the girls,” Beverly Barber, executive director of the Opp Housing Authority, said.

“Also I thank Annie Jarrett for chaperoning.”

This couldn’t have been done without donations, prayers and support from the local community, Barber said.

Next year, the team plans to attend the competition in Laurel, Miss.
