The Covington County Relay for Life committee is working hard to make sure the 2018 event will run as smooth as ever, and is recruiting teams and sponsors to reach their goal of 20 teams.

This year’s goal is 20 teams, currently 13 have signed up. Last year they almost made their goal by having 18 teams sign up.

“Last year we were very close to reaching both of our goals by having 18 teams sign up and raising $95,000 of the $100,000 goal,” Randi Bozeman, the sponsor coordinator, said.

This year the goal will be $100,000 again and Bozeman is very eager to meet it.

The theme this year for the event will be “Relaying Around the World.”

“Every team will choose a country to represent and will decorate their tent accordingly,” Bozeman said.

The event will be Fri., Apr. 13, at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds. The festivities will commence at 6 p.m. and will end at 10 p.m.

The first organizational meeting will be tonight Tues., Jan. 9, at 6 p.m. at the Covington 4-H Building and any team captains and members are encouraged to come and get information about the night of Relay for life.

The next organizational meeting will be Tues., Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Covington 4-H Building.

PowerSouth’s team will host its annual Resolution 5K this Sat., Jan. 13. Registration information is available at active.com, or by contacting organizer Casey Thompson at 427-3440.

One of Covington County Relay for Life’s first fundraisers will be a Barbecue Sack Lunch cooked by Billy Joe Stallworth.
