The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles are just two wins away from the Class 1A state championship game as they prepare to take on Decatur Heritage today in the opening round of AHSAA State Volleyball tournament in Birmingham.
“I think we’ve got as good of a draw as anyone up here,” Pleasant Home head coach Jerry Davis said. “I feel like we have a good chance in the first round, but the second round we will have to play the best match we’ve played all year.”
After going through a little slump before the area tournament, Davis said the Lady Eagles are now playing as good has they have all year.
“Right now, we are playing about as well as we have at any point in the year,” Davis said. “I’ve been saying all year that at some point we could turn into a really good volleyball team. We went south for a little while, but we played really well last week in Montgomery.”
Last week, the Lady Eagles knocked off Isabella to win the South Regional championship in Montgomery.
“That was the fourth-straight time we’ve played them in Montgomery,” Davis said of Isabella. “They got us twice and now we’ve got them twice. Our ninth and tenth graders are really starting to play well. They just needed to get some experience. We locked into a lineup about four weeks ago and have been rolling with it since.”
The Lady Eagles will take on Decatur Heritage today at 11 a.m.
