The Opp Bobcats needed a win to make the playoffs, but a late score saw Daleville come away with a 30-25 victory on Friday night in Opp.
The Warhawks took the opening kick and scored the first touchdown of the game.
Opp’s first score came with three minutes left in the first quarter when Shawn Tillis dove in from 1-yard out.
Daleville responded with the only score of the second quarter to take a 12-6 lead at halftime.
The Warhawks went up by 12 in the third with the first score of the second half.
On the first play of Opp’s next possession Reggie Thompson went 51 yards for a touchdown to pull the Bobcats back to within one score at 18-12.
Daleville continued to score with a touchdown late in the third going ahead 24-12 after three quarters.
Early in the fourth, the Bobcats mounted a comeback. Thompson scored on a 1-yard run to pull Opp back to within a touchdown. Then on fourth-and-six, Thompson hit Javontae Crittenden on a 6-yard pass to tie the game at 24-24.
Opp’s made the only PAT attempt of the night to take the lead 25-24 with two and a half minutes left.
The Bobcats celebration was short lived as Daleville returned the kickoff to midfield and scored on a 50-yard pass on the first play to go back on top 30-25. On Opp’s final drive the Bobcats drove to midfield, and on fourth down the Warhawks picked off a pass attempt to seal the game. Daleville won the game 30-25.
“It was another tough game that went back and forth. We had three fumbles on offense and gave up some big plays on defense in the second half” said Bobcats coach Brent Hill. “These kids are giving great effort but we’re making too many mistakes at key moments in the game. Daleville is a good team and you have to play at a high level to beat them.”
With the loss the Bobcats are eliminated from playoff contention.
Reggie Thompson had 15 carries for 112 yards and two scores to lead Opp on the ground. Thompson was 5 of 6 passing for 50 yards and a touchdown. Ashton Patel carried 17 times for 100 yards. Colby Williams caught one pass for 36 yards and Javontae Crittenden had two catches for 16 yards and a touchdown. On defense Spurlin Kelley had 16 tackles, Kody Richburg 13.
