Shelly Tomberlin is bringing Golden Rule Bar-B-Q to Andalusia.
The restaurant is set to open near the end of October.
The first Golden Rule opened in 1891, and is the oldest continuous running restaurant in the state of Alabama.
The franchise is originally out of Birmingham. There are nine locations. Golden Rule is also the sixteenth oldest restaurant in the country.
The restaurant brought 25-30 jobs to Andalusia.
Golden Rule Bar-B-Q is located in the same building that housed Mendoza’s Mexican restaurant.
Construction on the building started roughly two months ago, and now the finishing touches are being added.
The restaurant features old pictures of Covington County along the walls, and handmade lights.
The name of the restaurant might feature “Bar-B-Q” but that’s not all they serve.
“We will serve home-style foods, things like green bean casserole, grits and greens casserole, and fried chicken,” the manager of Golden Circle, Sheila Daughtery, said.
There will be a lunch buffet daily, featuring several different meats and side dishes. At night, there will be a dinner menu.
“It really is delicious food,” Tomberlin said.
On the weekends, the restaurant hopes to have special dishes, possibly with seafood or steak.
The restaurant will also serve alcohol.
