Opp pulls off homecoming win

The Opp Bobcats came away with a big 31-19 homecoming win over Houston Academy on Friday night in Opp.
Opp came out passing and halfway through the first quarter Hal Smithart connected with the returning Tye Lindsey for a 58-yard touchdown and an early 8-0 lead.
Early in the second quarter, the Raiders scored and appeared to have tied the game.
After much discussion the two-point try was ruled no good and Opp led 8-6.
One-minute later Opp scored their rushing touchdown of the game.
Dacarmeyen Hines scored from six yards out, putting Opp ahead 14-6.
Houston Academy responded with just over a minute to go until the half cutting the Opp lead to just two at the break 14-12.
Opp extended its lead with three minutes to go in the third quarter when Hines scored his second touchdown of the game.
This time from just 1-yard out for a 22-12 Opp lead.
Houston Academy put a scare into Opp cutting the lead to just three early in the fourth at 22-19.
After the Bobcats stopped the Raiders at the goal line, Hines iced the game with his third touchdown.
This time from 10 yards out putting the Bobcats ahead to stay 30-19. Following the game head coach Brent Hill complemented the team on its improvement.
“We have improved but still have a lot of room for growth. We are taking steps in the right direction, but we have to continue to learn from mistakes and patiently gain experience. The effort is there, we just have to improve alignment and execution.”
Dacarmeyen Hines led the way for Opp on the ground with 15 carries for 119 yards and three touchdowns.
Hal Smithart was 9-of-15 for 114 yards and a touchdown pass to Tye Lindsey who caught six passes for 138 yards.
Senior Colby Williams led the way on defense with a career-high 16 tackles.
