A local man was transported to Andalusia Health for injuries sustained in a one-vehicle motorcycle accident around 2 a.m., Thursday morning on U.S. Hwy. 29 north of Gantt.
Gantt Fire and Rescue Chief Scott Fight said they received the call around 2:05 a.m., and were on scene around 2:20 a.m.
Fight said the man was injured but the injuries were not life-threatening.
“He was conscious but in bad pain,” he said. “He had cuts and stuff on him.”
Fight said the man said a deer ran out in front of him and he laid the motorcycle down for a distance.
“He doesn’t remember much after that,” he said.
A few minutes later, Fight said a motorist struck the motorcycle and initially thought he might have struck the man, but found the man beside the road.
Fight said the motorcycle was in the middle of the road between Dunn’s Bridge Road and Pier 7 Road.
Fight said they were on scene until 3:29 a.m., and that deputies were still awaiting a state trooper to arrive on scene.
The man’s name was not readily available when the Star-News went to press.
