ServSafe, Microsoft Office Specialist, and Beef Quality Assurance might not be terms you hear or see very often, but to Andalusia High School students, these terms mean credentials they can use in the workforce now and after graduation.
Mrs. Jana Clark’s Family and Consumer Sciences program offers ServSafe, Mrs. Sara Mixson’s Business program offers the Microsoft Specialist credential, and Mr. Anthony Mikel’s Agriscience program offers the Beef Quality Assurance credential.
If you have eaten out at a restaurant lately, you have probably noticed at least one ServSafe certificate hanging on the wall. Any establishment that serves or sells food must have at least one ServSafe certified employee on each shift. Many local restaurant owners have stated that any applicant who is ServSafe certified will be considered first over all other applicants.
Passing the ServSafe test is no easy task. Mrs. Clark’s Food and Nutrition class is currently covering the 10-chapter textbook, and the information is quite explicit. Mrs. Clark is proud to announce that more than 25 students have become ServSafe certified during her time at AHS, and she hopes to equip many more students with this career-ready credential in the years to come.
