There was a large crowd on hand as fans gathered at Straughn High School for “Meet the Tigers” on Thursday night.
Straughn Quarterback Club president Mark Glisson welcomed everyone to the event, and then Red Coleman led them in prayer.
The Straughn marching band then played the “Star Spangled Banner” to kickoff the evening.
Next up, John Wiggins introduced the Straughn youth football players.
“These are some hardworking young men,” Wiggins said. “I know they are all looking forward to have their chance to play for Straughn High School one day in the future.”
New Straughn Middle School head football coach Marshall McGlaun followed with an introduction of the middle school Tigers.
“We have a good group of boys at Straughn Middle School,” McGlaun said. “I want to invite everyone out here Thursday night when our team will play the first quarter in the scrimmage against Red Level.”
After an introduction of the SMS cheerleaders by Ellen Sikes, SHS principal Donny Powell came up to address the crowd.
“Thank you everyone for coming out and supporting our Straughn Tiger family…At this time, I would like to introduce new Straughn High School football coach John Higgins,” Powell added excitedly.
Higgins then came up to introduce himself, the coaching staff and the Tigers’ varsity football team.
“I tell you, we have a great staff that loves Straughn,” Higgins said. “I can promise you that we are going to do everything we can to get this program back to where it once ways. I’m proud to be here and one thing I can tell you is that we are going to try to be the toughest team on the field each and every game.”
The SHS team then wrapped up the evening with a short scrimmage.
