SARA’s military appreciation day is today
South Alabama Regional Airport will hold its third annual Military Appreciation Day today, Fri., Aug. 11 from 10:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
All active duty and retired military personnel will receive a free grilled steak dinner from the heliport café.
There will be a drawing for free airplane rides over Covington County at 5:30 p.m.
An estimated 150-175 people from the local community attended last year.
Iron Works Men’s conference starts tonight
A former Atlanta Braves player, a national men’s speaker and others will come to Andalusia this weekend for the third annual Iron Works Men of Steel Conference.
The event will be held tonight and tomorrow, Aug. 11-12, at the Covington Arena.
There will be a tailgate party on Aug. 11.
“We will be in the covered area beginning at 5,” Mark Perry said. “Bring your grills, guys from work, guys from church and bring you some meat and drinks.”
Tickets are on sale now for $25 each, but can be purchased at the door.
Volunteers are need this morning to set up from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“And we’ll need help tearing everything down on Saturday,” Perry said.
A retreat for ladies, too
West Highland Assembly of God in Andalusia will host a ladies retreat this weekend with Christine Broadus as guest speaker. Sessions are at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. Refreshments will be served following the evening service and prior to the Saturday morning service, beginning at 9.
Meredith’s Miracles fish fry is tonight
Tickets are still on sale for tonight’s Meredith’s Miracles annual fish fry.
The event will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Southside Baptist Church.
The menu is fried catfish, cheese grits, French fries, coleslaw, hushpuppies, cake and drink.
Dine-in or carry out is available. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children under 12.
Tickets are available at Meredith’s Miracles Thrift Shop or at Harold’s, and at the door.
