Tommy Amason, a Command Sergeant Major in the Army and two-tour Iraq War veteran, formally announced his candidacy for the Congressional House seat in District 2. The announcement event was held at the Wetumpka Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1472 on Thursday. He is running as a Republican, and the primary election is set for June 5, 2018.
He is a lifelong resident of Prattville and a graduate of Prattville High School. He currently works at International Paper in Prattville, and is closing in on 30 years in the U.S. Army Reserve.
“We deserve a leader that understands that their job is to listen to you and carry YOUR concerns to Washington; not capitalizing on what’s best for their career or wallet,” he said. “Our current representative [Martha Roby] has until recently maintained the worst Conservative voting record of any Republican Representative in the State of Alabama. According to Conservative Review: Rep. Roby has an appalling average score of an ‘F’. We deserve better. We deserve a representative that consistently votes for our conservative values and also one that hasn’t had corrupt charges lingering over them. We deserve an anti-establishment leader that has morals and ethics that will guide him and his actions. That’s what I bring to the table,” Amason said.
