The legendary Charlie Daniels Band will headline the Sunday entertainment at the 58th annual Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo.

The Opp City Council on Mondayauthorized Mayor Becky Bracke to contract with the band.

The rodeo is set for March 24-25, at Opp’s Channell-Lee Stadium.

The Charlie Daniels Band is famous for songs such as “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” “Uneasy Rider,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp.”

The band has won Dove Awards for gospel albums and won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979 and single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards that same year for “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

The band’s latest release is “Off the Grid – Doin’ It Dylan,” which features 10 Bob Dylan songs sung by the CDB.

“I love what I do,” Charlie Daniels said on his website of his more than 50 years in the music business. “I look forward to entertaining people. When show time gets here, I’m ready to go, ready to go play for them. It’s a labor of love. I just thank God I make a living at what I enjoy doing.”

CDB includes Charlie Daniels, Charlie Hayward, Bruce Brown, Ron Gannaway, Chris Wormer and Shannon Wickline.

The rodeo has become synonymous with Opp and includes events such as rattlesnake races, education on the Eastern diamondback rattlesnake, dances and musical entertainment, and takes place each spring.

The rodeo is the biggest event all year in Opp and brings thousands of people and money to the city of Opportunity each year.
