The Andalusia High School golf team wrapped up the season on Monday after their two players narrowly missed the cut at the Class 4A Sub-State match in Montgomery.

Bulldog freshmen Adam Kilpatrick and Jack McCallman both put up solid numbers in sectionals to earn a spot in Monday’s Sub-State match at Arrowhead Country Club.

“I thought they did well,” Andalusia head coach Howard Battey said. “They were both a little psyched out by the course. They didn’t really like playing on it last year. They both started with double bogies on the first hole and it was kind of like just hanging on from there.”

The Andalusia freshmen shot 81 and 86, respectively, but just missed making the cut into this weekend’s state championship match.

“Both these kids are still young,” Battey said. “They were 2-of-3 freshman to even compete in Sub-State.”

With several young players returning next season, Battey said the next few years look bright for the Bulldog golf program.

“We had a really good season,” Battey said. “Parker Kelley really stepped up and shot in the 70s a few times. That was something that he didn’t do last season. Adam and Jack were the top two throughout the season, and with those three coming back we will have a good team next year. We are still looking for that fourth player to step up and keep and us in matches.”
