Have shoes that are dirty, too-tight, smelly, out of season?
You name it, and Andalusia Full Gospel Tabernacle wants them.
“AFGT is having their fourth annual shoe drive,” said Mindy Hunt of AFGT. “It started March 22 and will go through May 14.”
Four years ago, the church partnered with Soles4Souls to collect these old shoes to be recycles and/or redistributed in impoverished nations
“In the last four years, we have collected over 54,000 pairs of shoes for foreign missions as well as helping local students and families who are in need of good shoes,” she said. “We are asking those in the community to help us collect used shoes. They can be any size, any style — boots, heels, sandals, etc. Clean out your closets and find those old shoes that you don’t wear anymore and bring them to us.”
Hunt said this year’s goal is to receive 7,500 pairs of shoes.
Soles4Souls receives millions of articles of used shoes and clothing that have been collected by individuals, schools, faith-based institutions, civic organizations and corporate partners, according to its web site.
The items are sorted in its national warehouse system, and Soles4Souls sells the used and allowed new shoes and clothing to carefully selected micro-enterprise organizations. These private and non-profit companies in turn provide shipping, financing, inventory, training and other support to ultra-small businesses in countries like Haiti where there are virtually no jobs to generate personal income.
Hunt said those who wish to participate may drop off shoes at AFGT or at Guardian Angel Christian Daycare.
