Scotty Scofield opened Down the Road Bar and Grill with a goal of having a family-friendly place to eat, watch sports, and play pool.
“We’ve been open for almost a year now,” owner Scotty Scofield said. “I just wanted to open up a place where people could come enjoy a game with some good food and be able to bring their children. I kind of wanted it to be souped-up version of like Beef O’ Brady’s.”
Scofield said the new restaurant, which opened in April, has been well received.
“We have a lot of different food, but I would say that people seem to enjoy the filet mignon beef tips most of all,” Scofield said. “There are also burgers, sandwiches, wings, ribeyes and a lot of different appetizers on the menu. We are adding new things all of the time. My chef, Brennan Hall, also does chef specials whenever he feels a whim to create something.”
Along with a variety of food, Scofield said that bar and grill offers different entertainment as well.
“Some nights, we have live music or karaoke for the people to enjoy,” Scofield said. “There is also a covered area out back with pool tables where people can play pool while watching the game.”
Scofield said that in the future he hopes to grow the bar and grill with additional features.
“I want to start hosting some things like a BBQ cook-off or something like that,” Scofield said. “We are also looking into having an outside serving area where people can sit and enjoy the view of Lake Frank Jackson.”
Down the Road Bar and Grill, located on US 331 in Opp, is open seven days a week. Hours on Monday are 5-9 p.m., and Tuesday through Saturday they open at 11 a.m., with no set hour for closing. On Sunday, they open for lunch only.
