Forecasters are keeping their eyes on a cold front that is coming through the area Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, and the showers and thunderstorms likely to come ahead of it.
Covington County EMA Director Susan Harris said that even though the peak season for severe weather begin in March, there can still be isolated damaging severe thunderstorms in January.
“Stay alert and have some means of getting weather information,” she said. “The National Weather Service has updated us with this information: there continues to be a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms on Thursday as a fast moving upper level trough passes over the region. The main threat will be isolated damaging severe thunderstorm wind gusts.”
Forecasters said there could also be a brief tornado in the mix and that the timeframe is from 3 p.m. Thursday through 3 a.m. Friday.
