Andalusia man charged in Christmas Eve robbery

An Andalusia man has been charged in a Christmas Eve robbery.
The Andalusia Police Department received a call at approximately 7 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 24, about a robbery involving gun shots on Fletcher Road in Andalusia.
The victim, who was not identified by police, stated that a black male, identified as Zachary Chambers, 25, had called and asked for a ride. When the victim
arrived to pick him up, Chambers pulled a handgun and demanded money.
Chambers took
the victim’s cell phone and the victim drove off in an attempt to get away. Chambers fired at
least five shots at the vehicle. Two of the rounds struck the vehicle and were recovered by
Investigator Chris Byrd. The victim was not injured.
Chambers went to the Andalusia Police Department Wednesday for questioning.
He was arrested and charged with attempted murder, robbery 1st degree, shooting into an occupied vehicle and theft of property 4th degree.
He was transported to the Covington County Jail where he remains under an $83,000 bond.
