Two well-known Covington County musicians are combining their talents on Tuesday to present a Christmas Concert at First United Methodist Church in Opp.
Faye Tisdale, who is the pianist at Opp First Methodist, and John Beasley, who is the organist at Andalusia First Methodist and St. Mary’s Episcopal churches in Andalusia, will present a program of organ and piano duets, with a couple of pieces arranged for four hands on the piano.
“It’s mostly Christmas carols, with some secular tunes woven in,” she said.
The concert will open with one of her favorite Christmas songs, “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” which she likes for its pep.
Also included are some arrangements that weave carols and classical Christmas tunes together.
“You’re able to recognize both the church music and the classical piece,” she said.
Mrs. Tisdale said she and Beasley first played together when Beasley served as interim organist in Opp.
“Then someone – one of my students – asked if we would play at her wedding,” she said. “It was a December wedding, and that’s when we first played these Christmas things we are doing now.
“He plays a lot of these with Louisa Baker in Andalusia, and we get together to play over here. We have a good time.”
Both musicians also are retired educators. Mrs. Tisdale taught music in Opp City Schools, and Beasley taught mathematics in Andalusia City Schools.
The concert is sponsored by the Three Arts Club of Opp. Admission is free, and a reception will follow. Three Arts Club cookbooks will be on sale with all proceed going to Bethesda House. Donations to Bethesda House also will be accepted.
The concert is set for 11 a.m. on Tues., Dec. 13.
