2016 All-County Volleyball selections

There was a lot of exciting volleyball throughout Covington County this year, with three teams making it to the AHSAA state tournament in Birmingham.
Andalusia, Straughn and Pleasant Home each advanced to the state finals, and Opp narrowly missed out after a strong run in the South Regional.
The teams that made it couldn’t have done so without the play of the tremendous athletes they placed on the court. These eight players are ones that stood out during the season.
One such player was Straughn senior Ashley Hughes. For her efforts, Hughes has been names the Star-News’ Covington County Player of the Year.
“Ashley is one of the most unselfish, hard-working and team-first person that I’ve ever been around,” said Straughn head volleyball coach Daniel Rodgers. “At the same time though, when the game is on the line she was not afraid to make a play. She is a terrific teammate and a terrific young lady who is deserving of all that comes her way.”
The following players were selected by the Star-News for the All-County team for their tremendous efforts during the regional and state tournaments.
