Twenty-four employees were recently laid off at an Opp manufacturer.
MFG President and CEO Richard Morrison said Friday that the employee layoffs were seasonal.
“Thanksgiving and Christmas are slower times for us,” he said. “We laid off 24 teammates who were in temporary jobs.”
Morrison said their hopes are to have a position open for these employees in the January or February timeframe.
“We hope we can reconnect with them, if they haven’t already found another job,” he said. “We know sometimes they have other jobs.”
Morrison said that MFG is operating two plants in Opp and they have had major improvements.
“We recently had to ramp up and catch up on some projects,” he said.
Morrison said laying off 24 teammates is a little more than they like to layoff.
“We generally like to have a little more steady jobs,” he said. “But we can’t control what our customers buy.”
MFG produces products on contract for OEM’s such as General Motors, General Electric, Daimler Benz and more.
This is the second set of layoffs this year.
The Star-News reported in January that MFG announced temporary layoffs of 39 employees.
The company added 50 jobs in 2015, according to the 2015 New & Expanding Industry Announcements report from Made in Alabama.
