Local students participate in statewide mock election

Fourth through sixth grader students at WS Harlan recently participated in the 2016 Alabama Votes Student Mock Election.

Student votes from across the state were cast via computer and were calculated live on the Alabama Secretary of State’s website.

WS Harlan students cast: 17 votes or, 11.97 percent, for Hillary Clinton;

106 votes, or 74.65 percent, for Donald Trump;

Nine votes or 6.34 percent for Jill Stein;

Ten votes or 7.04 percent for Gary Johnson.

Statewide, Donald Trump won with 75,751 votes or 43.54 percent.

Hillary Clinton earned 66,868 votes or 38.43 percent of the votes.

Jill Stein got 14,184 or 8.15 percent and Gary Johnson earned 17,187 or 9.88.

A total of 173,990 votes were cast.

Other local schools who participated were:

  • Red Level Elementary School, who cast 41 votes for Donald Trump or 80.39 percent and 10 votes for Hillary Clinton for 19.61 percent;
  • Straughn Elementary School, where 141 votes or 89.24 percent were cast for Donald Trump; 11 votes and 6.96 percent for Hillary Clinton and three votes each for Jill Stein and Gary Johnson.
  • Straughn High School, where 95 votes were cast for Donald Trump or 79.17 percent; 17 votes for Jill Stein or 14.17 percent; five votes for Hillary Clinton or 4.17 percent and three votes for Gary Johnson.
