Opp falls short in Montgomery

1021-spt-opp1The Lady Bobcats moved out of the first round of the South Regional with a 3-0 victory over Fultondale, but were eliminated from the playoffs after being swept by T.R. Miller.

FULTONDALE 9

Opp got the first points of the game, but Fultondale responded with a point to tie the set 1-1.

Opp grabbed the lead right back when Madi Henley picked up a kill.

The Lady Bobcats kept rolling with a block from Millicent Nolin and kill from Courtney Osborn to put Opp on top 10-1.

Another block from Nolin, followed by an ace from Abigayle Barnett put Opp up 12-2. The Lady Bobcats’ run continued with a kill from Addie Jacobs to give Opp a 15-2 lead.

Ansley Foster added an ace and Bailee Boyd came through with a block that put Opp out front 19-6.

Amber Hadley picked up a kill and Osborn added her second kill of the game to give the Lady Bobcats a 22-8 lead.

The Lady Bobcats then finished off the first set with 25-9 victory.

FULTONDALE 7

In the second set, the Lady Bobcats displayed another strong performance to knock off Fultondale 25-7.

Nolin tipped the ball into a open spot on the floor to put the Lady Bobcats up 4-1.

Haylee Brundidge added an ace that put Opp out front 11-2.

A kill from Osborn and block from Henley helped push Opp to a 25-7 win.

FULTONDALE 21

Fultondale made a rally in the third set, but the Lady Bobcats completed the sweep with a 25-21 victory.

The Lady Bobcats quickly fell behind 5-0 to Fultondale before rallying back for the lead. Hadley picked up a pair of aces, Boyd had a block and Osborn came away with a kill to put the Lady Bobcats up 6-5.

Osborn added another kill that put Opp on top 10-9. A tip from Boyd a few plays later put the Bobcats up 12-11.

Osborn had two big kills during the Lady Bobcats’ final run to give Opp a 25-21 victory.

“I really felt like we played great,” Opp head coach Bridgett Brantley said. “We were able to get our second and third string in there for the first game. It’s always good when the whole bench contributes to a win. These girls are excited and motivated to be here. They decided to put God first and if it happens, it happens.”

In the second round, T.R. Miller beat the Lady Bobcats 25-17, 25-19 and 25-12.
