Lady Eagles heading to state

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles secured a spot in the Class 1A state tournament after sweeping their way through the first day of the South Regional volleyball tournament in Montgomery on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles defeated Talladega County Central High School to start the morning, and then clinched at spot in the state tournament with a victory over Sumiton Christian.
PLEASANT HOME 25, TALLADEGA 1
The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles exploded out of the gate to a 3-0 win over Talladega County Central High School.
In the opening set, the Lady Eagles wasted little time dispatching the Talladega with a 25-1 victory.
River Baldwin put the Lady Eagles on top 1-0 with a quick kill to start the contest and added another moments later to go up 3-1.
The Lady Eagles continued to play lights out as Hope Gunter picked up an ace for 5-1 lead. Sissy Martin then came through with a kill and then Gunter added another ace to go up 8-1.
Baldwin put the Lady Eagles up 9-1 with another kill and another ace from Gunter gave Pleasant Home a 13-1 lead. Baldwin added three more kills and a block to help led the Lady Eagles to a 25-1 victory.
PLEASANT HOME 25, TALLADEGA 10
In the second set of the day, the Lady Eagles continued to assert their dominance as they rolled to a 25-10 victory over Talladega County Central High School to take a 2-0 lead.
Talladega got the first point of the match, but a kill from Baldwin quickly knotted the contest at 1-1. A few plays later, Abby Walker served up an ace to put the Lady Eagles up 4-1.
Talladega picked up another point, but Baldwin followed it with a tip and kill to give Pleasant Home a 6-2 lead.
Gunter then added an ace to extend the Lady Eagles’ lead.
Baldwin and Gunter then went back-to-back with a kill and an ace to put the Lady Eagles up 10-2.
Baldwin picked up another ace after Talladega got its third point of the contest, and the took over from the service line.
Baldwin served up four aces to put the Lady Eagles out front 17-3.
The Lady Eagles never let up and Walker finished the set off with an ace to give Pleasant Home a 25-10 victory.
PLEASANT HOME 25, TALLADEGA 8
The Lady Eagles finished off the sweep of Talladega County Central High School with a 25-8 victory in the third set.
Baldwin picked up another handful for kills to get the Lady Eagles off and running.
Martin tacked up a pair of aces and Walker had four aces.
The Lady Eagles turned it up a notch and scorched past Talladega County Central for a 25-8 victory.
“I thought we played alright for that first game,” Pleasant Home head coach Jerry Davis said. “We felt good about that first game, but we still had to get some of the nerves out of the way. This is a completely different ball game up here. Lucky for us, we have a few girls that have been here before and that really helps out.”
PLEASANT HOME 25, SUMITON CHRISTIAN 3
The Lady Eagles came screaming out of the gate in the opening set against Sumiton Christian and came away with a 25-3 victory.
Walker picked up a couple of aces to give the Lady Eagles an early 3-0 lead.
Baldwin then came away with three-straight kills for a 7-0 lead.
Walker went back to work at the service line with back-to-back aces.
Camille Holley came up with a score on a big block that put the Lady Eagles on top 13-0.
After Baldwin got another kill to make it 17-0, Sumiton Christian picked up its first two points of the match.
Gunter then came to the service line and picked up and ace to put Pleasant Home up 20-2.
The Lady Eagles picked up five-of-the-six next points to get the win.
PLEASANT HOME 25, SUMITON CHRISTIAN 13
Pleasant Home picked right back up where they left off in the first game and held off Sumiton Christian for a 25-13 win.
Baldwin added several blocks and kills in the Pleasant Home victory.
Martin picked up an ace that helped the Lady Eagles to the win.
PLEASANT HOME 25, SUMITON CHRISTIAN 8
The Lady Eagles finished off the sweep with a 25-8 victory over Sumiton Christian in game three.
Walker picked up pair of aces and kill from Baldwin put the Lady Eagles up 4-0 to start the third set.
The Lady Eagles continued to apply the pressure with a big kills from Baldwin and Holley.
Holley got strong kill to give the Lady Eagles a 24-8 lead.
“We played really well against a very good volleyball team,” Davis said. “We jumped on them early and they never really recovered. We have been playing pretty solid for the past five weeks, but today might have been our best performance of the season.”
The Eagles will face Isabella at 2 p.m., today in the South Regional semi-final game in Montgomery.
