Straughn eyeing region win

The Straughn Tigers (3-1) are rested up from the bye week and look to grab a region victory tonight when the travel to Gevena to take on the Panthers (2-3) tonight in a Class 3A, Region 2 match up.
This will be just the eighth contest between the two squads with Geneva leading the series 4-3. The two teams last played in 2011 with Straughn winning 40-21.
Straughn was off last week, but pulled off narrow 35-34 win over Wicksburg the week before.
Geneva is coming off a 25-19 win over Class 2A Samson. The win over Samson snapped the Panthers’ three-game losing streak.
Through five games, Geneva has scored 120 points while giving up just 91.
Straughn has scored 137 points, but has given up 151 points in four games.
This season, Straughn has found a way to win the close games. Two of the Tigers’ three wins have been by a combined two points.
Straughn started the season with a thrilling 49-48 victory over perennial Class 1A powerhouse Brantley.
Straughn and Geneva have played one common opponent this in region-foe Providence Christian.
The Tigers defeated Providence Christian 21-14, and the Panthers lost to them 15-12.
Straughn and Geneva will kickoff tonight at 7 p.m., in Geneva.
