Eddie Salter will be the guest speaker at this year’s FOP pistol competition set for Saturday.
“I’m proud to announce this speaker,” said Greg Jackson of the FOP. “We want the public to come enjoy this great guy as I’m sure he will put on a show.”
Salter began hunting when he was 8 at his home in Evergreen.
“After learning turkey-hunting techniques from his father and grandfather, Salter called-in and harvested his first gobbler at the age of 10,” he said. “Salter began participating in competitive turkey calling and amassed an impressive list of titles.”
His titles include seven Southeastern Open Turkey calling championships, six Alabama State Championships and two World Open Championships and more.
The event will beheld at the Covington County Sheriff’s Office Firing Range.
There is no charge to hear Salter, who will speak at 11:30.
The event kicks off at 8 a.m.
There will be food and people are invited to watch the competition.
Thomas Hugghins of the FOP said that they still need three-man teams to participate, but they need to know as soon as possible.
“The money raised through this event will go to help special needs kids,” he said
The organization sponsors hunts for special needs children and a Special Adventures Day that includes pony rides, face painting, fire trucks, ambulance, police vehicles, characters, lunch (hamburgers, hotdogs, chips), bounce houses, and much more.
There is a steak dinner and auction on Friday night at the FOP Lodge.
There will be all kinds of sports memorabilia signed by different coaches.
Tickets are $20.
