Straughn High School graduate Beth Johnson has been ripping up the water and the competition this summer on her way to the 2016 Alabama INT wakeboaring state championship this weekend at Lake Guntersville.
“It felt amazing,” Johnson said. “Winning two days in a row and winning the state championship, there is nothing like it and it’s just an amazing feeling.”
The competition was tough and the water was rough, but Johnson let it all fly to capture the 2016 title.
“I knew I had to bring what I had,” Johnson said. “I knew my competition was going to be tough. I had a standing run on that first day where I didn’t fall at all.”
Even after winning day one, Johnson said she knew she couldn’t become complacent entering the second and final day.
“My competition was still going to be good so I knew I had to continue what I did the first day if I wanted first place,” Johnson said.
Next up Johnson will compete in the INT Regional tournament in North Caroline.
“I’m very excited,” Johnson said. “I want to thank all of my supporters, especially my family, Southern Independence Bank and all the other wakerboarders who have supported me.”
