In the past six to seven weeks, Dixie Paint has already used more than 260 gallons of paint on the West Watson Street water tower.

Scott Harris explained that the City Utilities Board contracted with the company to do the interior and exterior of the tank.

Workers used 160 gallons of paint on the inside alone, and Harris said it was as hot as 145 degrees inside of it.

The exterior has been pressure washed, and this week, painters are busy with the exterior. On Tuesday, they had used more than 100 gallons on the base coat.

Harris explained that while it is extremely hot, painting in cold water causes problems, too.
