Wiregrass wins back-to-back national titles

Andalusia baseball players Ethan Wilson, Will Jones and Chase Hopkins clinched a national title this weekend as members of the Wiregrass Cardinals Red 17U AAU baseball team at the AAU National Championship in Sarasota, Fla.
Wilson pitched a huge game in the semi-finals for the Cardinal Reds as they defeated the Boston Blue Jays 11-1 on Saturday.
Wilson gave up one hit, two walks and two strikeouts while picking up the win on the mound.
At the plate, Jones had a huge game going with a home run, double and four RBIs
Hopkins also tacked on two hits and two RBIs in the semi-final game.
The Cardinal Reds went right back to work on Sunday and picked up an 8-2 win over Boston to claim the national title for the second year in a row.
In the championship game, the Blue Jays went on top 2-0 after scoring runs in the first and second inning.
Wiregrass rallied back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-2 advantage.
The Cardinals’ pitcher, Tanner Ross ran into some trouble in the in the top of the fifth inning, but Hunter Lunsford came in relief and shut down the rally.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals jumped out front 5-2, and put the game away with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Wilson and Hopkins each picked up a hit in the championship game.
Hopkins finished the tournament with a .500 batting average and three RBIs.
