Jerry Baker of Ozark prevailed yesterday to win the singles championship in the Andalusia Rotary Club’s World Championship Domino Tournament. Baker said he won on luck, and that the only “practice” he gets is playing dominoes at home, mostly with his grandchildren.
Baker has only missed two years of playing in the tournament’s 41-year history. In 1980, he and his partner, Jimmy Baker of Ozark, won the doubles championship.
Second place winner was Jim Foster of Ponder, Texas, who won the doubles title in 2014; third place went to Travis Newsome of Chicago, who won the singles tournament in 1988 and 2003, and doubles in 1999; and fourth place went to Wayne Johnson.
Doubles play begins at 8 a.m. today, Sat., July 9.
