A truck driver will be charged with leaving the scene of an accident in Opp Monday afternoon.
Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said that at approximately 1:07 p.m., OPD and Opp Fire Department units responded to the intersection of Hwy. 52 and Hwy. 299 in response to a two-vehicle crash.
“A pickup truck with two occupants was proceeding westbound on Hwy. 52 when it was struck by a Volvo tractor trailer that was northbound on Alabama Hwy. 299,” McDonald said . “The tractor trailer failed to stop at the scene of the crash and was followed by a citizen. When the operator of the truck noticed that he was being followed by a citizen, he did a U-turn on Alabama 299 and returned to the scene. We thank the citizen for his involvement.”
McDonald said the investigation determined that the tractor trailer failed to stop at the red light.
“The two occupants of the pickup truck were transported by ambulance to the Mizell Memorial Hospital emergency room with minor injuries,” he said. “The operator of the tractor trailer will be charged with leaving the scene of an accident.”
The name of the driver has not been released.
