Ashley Hughes represented Straughn High School at the 2016 session of American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State, held on the campus of the University of Alabama.

Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Alabama Girls State is a laboratory of practical government, an a personal application of the duties, respo-nsibilities and privileges of being and American.

Hu-ghes is invo-lved in the Student Government Association, Spanish Club, was junior class president; is a member of the track/field team; a member of the varsity volleyball team; secretary of the National Honor Society; a member of the Envirobowl team; a member of the physics team; and a Peer Helper. She works as a lifeguard at the city pool.

She is the daughter of Terry and Stacey Hughes, and the granddaughter of Billy and Merlene Hughes, George R. Bullock, and the late Patricia Bullock.
