There’s been a round of musical chairs at the Covington County Sheriff’s office.
Longtime Chief Investigator Teddie Rae Motley recently retired.
Sheriff Dennis Meeks promoted fellow longtime investigator Wesley Snodgrass to fill Motley’s role.
“After 15 years with the sheriff’s office, Ted retired, leaving an opening in investigations,” Meeks said. “With Wesley’s experience, he was promoted to chief investigator.”
At the same time, Meeks promoted investigator Howard West to lieutenant over patrols, leaving a second opening in investigations.
“With Lt. West’s more than 20 years of patrol experience, he is well qualified to oversee and lead the patrol division,” he said. “Especially in continued training of our new officers.”
With Snodgrass and West moving up in the ranks, that left two investigator jobs open.
“Two of our patrol sergeants, Kevin Wise and Heath Truman, both having previous investigative experience, were promoted to investigations,” he said.
Wise’s and Truman’s promotions left two openings for patrol sergeants and Meeks promoted Paige Spivey and David Brownlee to those spots.
The sheriff also recently hired Cody Holmes, who graduated from the Northeast Alabama Police Academy in April, and John Williamson, who graduated from the Jefferson County Police Academy in May.
“Both of these officers are well-respected and are an asset to the sheriff’s office,” he said.
