Straughn readies for new challenges in 2016

The Straughn Tigers drop down to Class 3A for the upcoming football season and will face some new teams in 2016.
Straughn enters its second season with Chris Wilson at the helm. Wilson led the Tigers to a second round of the Class 4A playoffs before falling to Munford.
Straughn will begin the season at home with preseason game on Aug. 19 before kicking off the regular season on Aug. 26 with home contest against Class 1A powerhouse Brantley High School.
Week two of the regular season will see the Tigers get in Class 3A, Region 2 play when the face cross-county foes Opp High School on Sept. 2. The Tigers own a 10-2 lifetime record against the Bobcats.
In week three, the Tigers will face an unfamiliar foe in Providence Christian. Straughn will travel to Dothan to take on Providence on Sept. 9 in a Region 2 match up.
Straughn returns home the on Sept. 16 for a region contest with Wicksburg High School. Straughn holds a 3-2 record in the five previous match ups between the two teams.
The Tigers close out the month of Sept., on the road for a region contest against Geneva High School.
In week six, the Tigers face another team that they have never faced before when Houston Academy comes to town on Oct. 7.
The Tigers continue the trend of one game and home one game on the road when they travel to Daleville on Oct. 14 to take on the Warhawks for a region contest. Straughn has a 3-2 lifetime record against Daleville.
Straughn closes out region play the following week with a home contest against Slocomb High School on Oct. 21. Straughn has a 3-2 lifetime record against Slocomb.
The Tigers close out the regular season on Oct. 28 with a rivalry game against cross-county rival Andalusia High School.
