PHS defeats Fruitdale, faces Millry today

After falling to in the opening round of the Class 1A South Regional softball tournament in Gulf Shores, the Pleasant Home Lady Eagles left no doubt as they throttled the Fruitdale Lady Pirates 15-0 on Thursday night.
Pleasant Home worked a smooth opening frame in field and then tacked on three runs in the bottom of the first for an early lead.
In the top of the second, the Lady Eagles continued to sit down the Lady Pirates and held a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the second.
Bella Worley led off with walk in the bottom of the second and then stole second and third base.
Hope Gunter followed with ground ball to second base and the second baseman attempted to throw Worley out at home but the throw was late.
Three more walks and a few passed balls allowed the Lady Eagles to go on top 6-0.
Cassidy Godwin then singled to right to drive in two runs and put the Lady Eagles up 8-0.
Amy Bulger followed with a single to score Godwin, and then a two-RBI single from Taylor McGhee for an 11-0 Pleasant Home lead.
A few batters later, Tammi Hilson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Lady Eagles a 12-0 lead.
Anna Bulger and Abby Walker each drove in runs after that to give the Lady Eagles a 14-0 lead at the end of the two innings.
The Lady Eagles held Fruitdale off the board in the top of the third and then Sissy Martin came around to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the third for a 15-0 victory for Pleasant Home.
Pleasant Home will face Millry at 9 a.m., today.

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles fell 7-6 in extra innings to the Kinston Lady Bulldogs in the opening round of the Class 1A South Regional softball tournament in Gulf Shores on Thursday.
Kinston took the first lead of the game after plating a run in the bottom of the first inning.
In the bottom of the first inning, Anna Bulger singled to get things started for the Lady Eagles. Abby Walker followed with a single to move Anna Bulger to second.
The Lady Bulldogs’ catcher then attempted to throw behind Anna Bulger at second, but the ball sailed into the outfield and allowed Anna Bulger to score the tying run and moving Walker to second. Cassidy Godwin then drove a sacrifice fly to the outfield that scored Walker to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Walker picked up a strikeout to start the top of the second inning, but the Lady Bulldogs strung together a few hits to tie the game 2-2.
With two outs and runners on first and second, the Lady Bulldogs sent a ground ball to Sissy Martin and second. Martin threw to Taylor McGhee, but the throw was just late. Kinston’s lead runner rounded third and headed for the plate, and McGhee wheeled and fired to Godwin at the plate. The Kinston runner attempted to steamroll Godwin at the plate, but Godwin held on the ball for the final out of the inning.
Pleasant Home got a few base runners in the bottom of the second, but the Lady Eagles were unable to break open the tie.
In the top of the third, Kinston took the lead back after stringing together a few basehits.
Anna Bulger led off the bottom of the third by getting plunked by a pitch, and then Godwin came up and mashed ball to the fence in right to tie the game 3-3 heading into the fourth inning.
The tie didn’t last for long as Kinston picked up a run in the top of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.
The score remained there until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Lady Eagles regained the lead.
Godwin drove in Walker to tie the game and then a two-out double from Martin put the Lady Eagles on top 5-4.
The Lady Bulldogs responded right back in the top of the sixth with one run to tie the game 5-5.
Hope Gunter led off the bottom of the sixth by reaching first and then moved up to second on single from Tammi Hilson. Anna Bulger ripped a single that scored Gunter to put the Lady Eagles on top 6-5.
In the bottom of the seventh, Kinston got a sacrifice fly with one out to tie the game 6-6.
Amy Bulger led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, but the Lady Eagles were unable to get he across.
The game remained tied 6-6 until the top of the 10th inning when Kinston got a two-out single to go up 7-6.
Pleasant Home got a few runners in the bottom of the 10th, but they just weren’t able to get a run across.
