Results from day 1 of AHSAA Track and Field state championship meet

Athletes from Opp, Straughn and Red Level are currently competing for state championships in Gulf Shores and Cullman for the 2016 AHSAA Track and Field State Finals meet.
Class 1A Red Level and Class 3A Opp are in Cullman and Class 4A Straughn is competing in Gulf Shores.
Red Level’s Joe Arnold finished in eighth place in the Class 1A 110-meter hurdles preliminaries in Cullman.
Arnold’s time of 18.90 qualifies him for today’s state finals.
Arnold will compete in today’s 300-meter hurdles event.
Red Level’s 4×800-meter relay team of Austin Huckaba, John Lee, Jake Jeter and Arnold finished ninth in the finals with a time of 10:16.70.
Red Level’s Lee will compete today in the finals of the Class 1A boys’ long jump.
Red Level’s Brody Ingram and Jeter will compete today in the Class 1A boys’ 3200-meter run.
In Class 4A, Straughn’s Johnathan Driver just missed the cut for the finals with a score of 109-10 in the boys’ discus event.
Wilson High School’s Cade Finley shattered the previous state record of 160-06 in discus with a score of 165-05. Finley broke the record on his second to last throw and then followed it up with a 163 on his final throw.
Straughn’s Abigail Thomas also just missed the qualifying mark with 14th place finishes in the 1600-meter run and the 3200-meter run.
In the Class 4A boys’ 100-meter dash, Straughn ‘s Jacob Hawkins placed 16th with a time of 11.93.
Kaleb Pinckard of Straughn finished 16th in the boys’ 110-meter hurdle event with a time of 18.92.
Straughn’s boys finished 10th in the 4×800-meter relay event with a time of 9:12.85.
They placed 17th in the Class 4A boys’ 4×100-meter relay with a time of 47.54.
In Class 3A, Opp’s boys finished 10th in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 45.89.
Opp’s Darian Germany finished 16th in the Javelin finals with a score of 128-09.
Opp’s Hennis Washington placed 20th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.70.
