Andalusia falls to top-ranked UMS-Wright

Andalusia battled mightily with the top-ranked UMS-Wright Bulldogs in the second round of the Class 4A baseball state playoffs in Andalusia, but the visiting Bulldogs were able to come away with a 15-3 victory in the final game of the best-of-three series.
It was Andalusia who got out front to start the contest, as they plate three runs in the opening inning.
Garrett Davis got things started with a single back up the middle and then Ethan Wilson followed with a single to center.
Hogan Nichols followed with a sacrifice bunt that advanced the Bulldog runners to second and third with one-out.
Riley Graham then raked a 2-1 pitch into center that allowed Davis and Wilson to both score.
Will Jones then reached off a fielder’s choice.
Jones then got into a run down that allowed Graham to steal home and put Andalusia on top 3-0.
UMS-Wright responded with a single from Tanner Allen to start bottom of the first.
Allen later came around to score and after one inning of play, Andalusia held a 3-2 lead over UMS-Wright.
Chase Hopkins singled to leadoff the top of the second inning, but two strikeouts and ground out ended the Andalusia half of the second.
UMS-Wright tied the game in the bottom of the second and might have gotten more, but Nichols hosed a runner trying to steal second for the third out of the inning.
Will Clark was hit by a pitch with one-out in the top of the third inning and Jones followed with a single to right, but Andalusia was unable to get a run across.
In the bottom of the third, UMS-Wright broke the game wide open with a seven-run inning to take a 10-3 advantage.
Davis drew a one-out walk in the top of the fourth inning and then Nichols singled with two outs, but once again Andalusia ended the inning with runners on the base paths.
UMS-Wright continued to pound the baseball and added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 15-3 lead.
Andalusia went down in order in the top of the fifth and UMS-Wright advanced to the third round with a 15-3 victory.
Graham led the way for the Bulldogs going 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the defeat.
Davis, Wilson, Nichols and Jones had one hit each for Andalusia.
