Troy University announces summer camps

TROY – Troy University will host several camps throughout the summer, offering a variety of educational opportunities for students and adults.

The Wiregrass Math, Science and Technology Leadership Academy will be held June 2-3 and June 6-8 on the University’s Dothan Campus. Made possible through a grant from the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, the Leadership Academy is designed to improve teacher quality through a series of science, math and technology-themed workshops and activities.

Troy University’s Sound of the South marching band will offer its annual Summer Music/Leadership Camp June 12-16 on the Troy Campus. The camp will feature instruction in concert band, percussion ensemble, drum major, majorette, dance and color guard.

TROY’s John M. Long School of Music will also present M.I.C Check, a summer music camp experience focused in music industry, June 16-18. The camp is designed for high school students who are interested in a career as a recording artist, songwriter, sound engineer, record or concert producer, music business executive, media composer or music marketing.

A residential immersion in Chinese language and culture is available on the Troy Campus for both students and language teachers June 26-July 10. Made possible through a grant from the National Security Agency, STARTALK Chinese Language Summer Program and the Chinese Language Teacher Program seek to expand the teaching and learning of the Chinese language and culture through a variety of workshops, activities and demonstrations.

TROY’s Department of Theatre and Dance will offer several Summer Spotlight camps throughout the summer. Spotlight on Dance, a dance camp for 8- to 12-year-olds, will be held from July 11-15, and is built on storytelling through movement. No previous dance experience is required. Spotlight on Dance seeks to increase skill, agility, balance and focus, and campers will participate in a showcase performance at the conclusion of the week.

The Summer Spotlight on Creative Drama will be held from July 17-22, for “Spotlighters” from age 8 to 13, and “Mini Spotlighters” for ages 4-5. The camp will feature a wide array of activities, including workshops and group and individual coaching in the areas of playwriting, acting, creative drama and musical theatre.

The Summer Spotlight Performance Intensive Theater camp and a Tech and Management Intensive camp, both designed for high school students and incoming college freshmen, will be held from July 24-30.

 

 

 

The Intensive Theater camp will feature immersion in all facets of theatre and dance, including auditions, acting, scene study, vocal technique, ballet, musical theatre, choreography, playwriting, commercial dance and more.

 

The Tech and Management Intensive allows participants to experience several areas of technical theatre, including hands-on training in sound, lighting, scenery, props and stage management.
