Former Pleasant Home High School standout basketball player Alex Myrick was recently selected by Student Athlete World Tours to represent the United States in the Barbados International World Tour.
The Barbados International World Tour is and International sporting competition that will be held in Barbados on June 18-27.
Student-athletes are chosen for the team based on a combination of their athletic ability as well as the academics, leadership ability and character.
The trip includes not only the international sport competition but also sightseeing and opportunities from personal growth and leadership develop through international travel, according to the website.
“It feels really good to be selected,” Myrick said. “It will be a long haul from the house, but it’s a once in a lifetime experience.”
After a stellar senior season at Pleasant Home in 2014-2015, Myrick signed a basketball scholarship at Huntingdon.
“I went to a lot of camps and things trying to improve my game,” Myrick said. “One of those camps was in Chapel Hill, Ten., for a chance to get onto the Team USA. They had camps all over the nation and then they selected 15 players from all of those camps to represent Team USA and I was blessed to be picked.”
At the camp, Myrick said he was in the zone that day.
“I was just feeling it that day,” Myrick said. “I didn’t turn the ball over and I was scoring.”
Myrick said he is looking forward the trip for many reasons.
“I’m looking forward to not only playing basketball, but just for the entire experience,” Myrick said. “I really look forward to learning about the different culture.”
The potential for exposure to different college coaches is also something that Myrick is hoping to gain at the tournament.
“It’s going to broadcast nationwide to all the college coaches,” Myrick said. “Hopefully, I can get the attention of some of the coaches.”
In the Barbados tournament, Team USA will compete with teams from 40 other countries.
