Man charged with manslaughter in brother-in-law’s death; pair argued over cigarettes, $40

The Florala Police Department has charged a 26-year-old man with manslaughter in a Feb. 7th death of his brother-in-law.
Chief Sonny Bedsole said Wednesday that Jessie Leroy McQueen, 26, of Florala, was charged with manslaughter on Tues., Feb. 16.
Bedsole said FPD began their investigation after they received a report that McQueen had been in a physical altercation with Anthony Reeves. Prior to the report, Reeves had been transported by ambulance to Opp Mizell Memorial Hospital with undetermined injuries. Reeves was later transferred to a Dothan hospital where he later died.
Bedsole said the FBD’s investigation revealed the brothers-in-law got into a physical confrontation over cigarettes and $40 in cash.
During the altercation, Reeves suffered blunt force trauma to the head, which ultimately caused his death.
The Covington County District Attorney’s Office, Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency also assisted with the investigation, Bedsole said.
