Brantley tops Eagles for area crown

It was a hard fought game from start to finish, but the Pleasant Home Eagles came up on the short end of 50-41 final to Brantley on Thursday night in Pleasant Home for the Class 1A, Area 2 championship.
Brantley came firing out of the gate and quickly put the Eagles in a 7-0 hole.
Pleasant Home battle back with a great reverse layup from Aaron Warthen and then 3-pointers from Walt Weaver and Robert Scott.
At the end of the first period, Brantley held a 16-8 lead.
After Brantley opened up the second period with a bucket, Weaver dropped in another 3-pointer.
The Eagles then got points from Nic Woods, Garrett Barton and Hunter Ward to leave Pleasant Home trailking 21-18 at halftime.
Warthen opened up the third period with a layup and then another 3-pointer from Weaver put Pleasant Home on top 23-21
Brantley ended the third with a 9-2 run and held a 30-25 lead heading into the final frame.
The Eagles darted out to start the fourth period and made it a 30-29 ball game, but that was as close as the Bulldogs would let them get.
Brantley ended the night with a flurry of free throws to knock off the Eagles 50-41 for the Class 1A, Area 2 championship.
The Eagles will now have to travel to play the Area 1 champions for their sub-regional game.
Weaver led the Eagles with 19 points including five 3-pointers.
