This week’s area tournament action

The 2015-2016 AHSAA high school basketball season has come to a close and today begins area tournament play for a few Covington County teams.
In Class 4A, Area 2 action, Straughn finished in first place in both the girls’ and boys’ divisions and will host both area tournaments beginning today.
Andalusia and Ashford will kickoff the tournament with girls’ action at 3 p.m., and the same teams will play to start the boys’ bracket at 4:30 p.m.
Straughn will then face Headland in the girls’ bracket at 6 p.m. and the boys’ will face Headland at 7:30 p.m., for the final game of the night.
Both championship games are set for Friday with girls at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
In Class 1A, Area 2, the Pleasant Home Eagles will host both the girls’ and boys’ area tournaments beginning today.
On the girls’ side, Florala and Kinston will get things started at 3:30 p.m. The Lady Eagles will take on Brantley at 6:30 p.m.
In the boys’ bracket, Brantley and Kinston start things off at 5 p.m., and Pleasant Home will take on Florala at 8 p.m.
Both championship games are set Thursday with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
The Red Level Lady Tigers start the Class 1A, Area 3 tournament at 5 p.m., today when they take on the Georgiana Lady Panthers in Beatrice.
Red Level’s boys will travel to Georgiana on Thursday to take on J.F. Shields for the opening round of the boys’ Area 3 tournament. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m.
Opp begins the Class 3A, Area 2 tournament on Wednesday in Brewton. Opp will face Hillcrest at 6 p.m.
Opp’s boy s will play T.R. Miller at 6 p.m., Thursday at Hillcrest.
