Bobcats top Bulldogs 1st time in 25 games

For the first time since the 2003-2004 basketball season, the Opp Bobcats varsity boys’ defeated the Andalusia Bulldogs. On Friday night in Opp, the Bobcats downed the Bulldogs 77-63 in front of a packed gym.
Orlando Lacey got the Bobcats on the board first and then Devontae Williams picked up 6 points in the opening period.
At the end of one, the game was tied 8-8.
B.J. Anderson, Jaxon Rudolp, Ian Peek and Alex Sheridan had 2 points each for the Bulldogs in the opening period.
Andalusia took the lead to start the second period after Anderson converted and old-fashioned 3-point play, but Lacey immediately tied the game back up with a 3-pointer on the other end of the court.
Moments later with game tied 13-13, Greg House popped a 3-pointer to put the Bobcats back on top.
Andalusia then grabbed the lead back after Sheridan knocked down four consecutive free throws to put the Bulldogs up 17-16 with 4:22 left in the first half.
After the Bobcats took the lead back, Anderson knocked down a 3-pointer to put Andalusia up 20-18.
A layup from Rudolph gave Andalusia its biggest lead of the game at 24-18.
Opp surged back with a 3-pointer from Reggie Thompson, and then with 1:30 left in the first half Thompson tied the game at 25-25 with another 3-pointer.
Lacey then put the Bobcats up 27-25, and Opp never looked back from that point on.
Trevor Parker drained a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left in first half to make the score 29-28.
With time winding down in the second, Thompson attempted a buzzer-beater 3-pointer. Thompson missed the shot, but drew a foul in the process.
Thompson hit all three free throws to put Opp up 32-28 at halftime.
Williams started off the third period with a 2-for-2 trip to the free-throw line, and Ty White followed with a layup to put Opp up 36-28.
The Bobcats continued to pile on the points to start the third period, and after a 12-2 run, the Bobcats led 44-30.
Parker ended the run with a 3-pointer and Sheridan followed with a offensive rebound and put back to cut the Bobcat lead down to 44-35 with 2:35 left in the third.
Opp wasn’t looking to let the Bulldogs back in the game and 6-straight points from White put the Bobcats on top 50-35.
At the end of the third period, Opp led 54-41.
Parker started the scoring in the fourth period with a 3-pointer, and then and old-fashioned 3-point play from Anderson cut the Bobcats’ lead down to 54-47.
Williams then dropped in back-to-back buckets to push the Opp lead up to 59-47.
The Bulldogs weren’t giving up and continued to fight back into the game.
Parker picked up a bucket and foul, but missed the free throw. Rudolph tipped the miss in to cut the Bobcats’ lead to 61-53.
Thompson and White then went off for the Bobcats in the final few minutes, picking off inbound passes from the Bulldogs and turning them all into points.
White led the Bobcats with 19 points including 12 points in the final period. Thompson and Williams each added 16 points.
Parker, Anderson and Sheridan each finished with 15 points for the Bulldogs. Sheridan was 11-for-12 at the free-throw line.
