Pleasant Home wasn’t able to hold off the Popular Springs Atomics Saturday in the Alabama/Florida Shootout, as the Eagles fell 40-34.
Pleasant Home took a quick 4-0 lead of jumpers from Garrett Barton, and at the end of the first period. The Eagles were on top 11-4.
Robert Scott put Pleasant Home up 16-7 with a 3-pointer early in the second period, but the Eagles went cold and trailed 20-17 at halftime.
Both teams struggled to find open shots because of both teams’ swarming defenses, and at the end of the third period Popular Springs was still on top by three, 28-25, heading into the final stanza.
A jumper from Chase Gunter to open the fourth left the Eagles trailing by one, and Pleasant Home took the lead a short time later with a pair of free throws from Aaron Warthen.
The Atomics bounced back and held on for a 40-34 win.
Scott led the Eagles with 9 points in the game.
