Red Level cruises past Luverne

Red Level picked up a 69-59 win over the Luvernve Tigers Thursday night in the opening round of the 49th annual Andalusia Invitational Tournament.
Hunter Ray Carpenter had Red Level off an rolling in the opening period has came up with 6 points to help his team build a 16-9 lead at the end of the first.
Devon Dexter and Jeffery Perdue each had 3 points in the opening period for Red Level.
Both teams continued to battle in the second period and Red Level held a 31-26 lead at halftime.
During the second period, Carpenter came up with a big assist when he drove the lane hard, got his man in the air and then dished the ball to a wide open Perdue for an easy layup.
Dexter added five more points to his total in the second period to led the way for Red Level.
Red Level continued to work in the 3-ball as much as possible, and Dexter knocked to two more and Carpenter hit one in the third period to put Red Level on top 50-39 heading into the final period.
Dexter got Red Level’s first points of the fourth period with a strong move along the baseline before going up for a layup to give the Tigers a 52-42 lead with six minutes left in the contest.
Perdue then knocked down an old-fashioned 3-point play to go up 55-42.
Ontaryo Nearer got the next bucket for Red Level with a nifty bunny hop through the lane capped off with a smooth layup.
A 3-pointer from Dexter followed to give Red Level a 60-46 lead.
Javarius Grooms, Perdue and Dexter capped of the scoring to give Red Level a 69-59 win.
Dexter led Red Level with 24 points in the victory, and Perdue finished with 22 points.
“We did a better job controlling the game and we stayed out of foul trouble for the most part and we finished,” Red Level head coach Allen Catrett said. “That is something we haven’t done a lot of this year, and I’m hoping that is a sign of maturity. We gave up the lane a little too much tonight, but after losing to these guys by four points a few nights ago, it’s nice to get this win.”
Red Level advances to the winner’s bracket where they will take on Andalusia at 8:30 tonight.
