Straughn notches homecoming win

Straughn blew out Ashford 27-0 on homecoming Friday night.
Ashford got the ball first, but Straughn’s stingy defense forced a punt on the first possession.
Straughn struck first with 8:57 left in the first quarter on a 7-yard run from quarterback Barrett Bush.
Straughn’s Malik Parker scored for the Tigers with 4:25 left in the first on a 14-yard run, putting SHS up 12-0.
Bush scored with 8:20 left in the second on a 13-yard run.
Parker was able to find the end zone for a two-point conversion to put he Tigers up 20-0, at the half.
Parker hit the end zone with 5:34 left in the third quarter for the final score of the night.
C.J. Philpot made the extra point, putting the Tigers up 28-0.
The Tigers had 350 total yards of offense, and only gave up 178 total yards, with only 22 in the first half.
They had 293 rushing yards, and 14 first downs to the Yellow Jackets’ six.
Bush was 4-for-6 in passing with 57 yards.
Javaris Samuel had 194 yards rushing.
Parker had 65 yards rushing and two touchdowns and Bush had 20 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Straughn head coach Chris Wilson said he thought his team executed well.
“They did a good job carrying over from last week,” he said. “This is our second straight shut out. I thought our offense moved the ball well, and our defense had a big game.”
Wilson said the win gave them a chance to get into the playoffs.
“I was pleased,” he said. “We played well.”
