Former Andalusia Bulldog, Montel Lee, had big game for Ferrum College (1-3, 1-0 USA South) on Saturday as the Panthers knocked off the Greensboro Pride (1-3, 0-1 USA South) 31-20 in their USA South Conference opener.
Greensboro took an early 6-0 lead off a 6-yard touchdown run from Cortez Vernun, but minutes later the Panthers responded with a touchdown run from Charles George. Following the successful extra-point Ferrum went up 7-6.
After falling behind 12-7, the Panthers answered back with an 8-yard touchdown from George to take a 14-12 lead at halftime.
Troy Helton and Michael Hunter added a touchdown each in the second half to help guide the Panthers to the win.
When the Panthers were on defense, Greensboro must have felt like there were 11 Montel Lee’s on the field, as he seemed to be in or around every tackle and set up camp in the Pride backfield.
Lee’s swarming defense helped give the Panthers their first win of the 2015 season, and Lee finished the game with nine total tackles, four and a half tackles were for a loss and he also picked up two and half sacks.
Lee now has 19 total tackles which is the fourth highest for the Panthers. Lee leads the Panthers in sacks (3.5) and tackles for a loss (8.5). The Panthers have a combined for 21 tackles in the backfield for a total of 89 yards, and Lee is responsible for 72 or those yards.
The Panthers will be back home this Saturday when they take on conference opponent Huntingdon College at 1 p.m.
